I’ve got a pretty good eBay search saved: within 150 miles, under $1500, ending soonest. I just found this ‘64 Barracuda ending in three days in NJ, not too far from me, an easy day trip.
But wait, what’s this...
Ohmygoditsafactoryfourspeed! That shifter is AWESOME looking. The whole dashboard is awesome looking, totally the sort of area I’d like to hang out.
It’s a 273 small block car, originally rated at 180hp, and the motor is both out of the car and stuck. But that’s fine! Either build up the 273 or swap in a 340, either way it’s pretty good.
The floors and everything are solid, just surface rusty. The only rot hole is at the base of the B-pillar, kind of a shitty spot honestly, but I’m not planning to do anything at all to the outside of the car as far as painting it or whatever. I’d probably just cut back the rot and pop rivet a piece of sheet metal over it/seal it.
This is easily my favorite thing I’ve seen in my latest project car quest. I’m going to be following this car with much interest in the next three days.
Also, I’m currently the high bidder. So there’s that.

The first gif was me when I saw that floor shifter.

I almost didn’t mention it, in case anybody else here decided to compete for it, haha. I looked at sold ones, nicer ones than this have sold in my price range, so I’m hoping it goes for less than $1000. That would make my life.

Would be so cool to clean up and get back on the road. When I was a kid, there was one of these in a carport nearby. The family didn't drive it but they couldn't part with it either, so it just sat, loved but neglected.

A towing company near me actually has a slightly newer gold one sitting beside their building, been there forever. I always loved the fastback style of these, so this would work for me.

Put a hemi in it!
Hope you win the bid. Looks awesome.

Haha, I'm thinking either I'll rebuild the 273 or do a high revving 340. You know, assuming I win the auction.

Good luck. That would be amazing.

My folks had a 65 Valiant wagon-slant six 4 speed. Bench seat with that shifter. It even said Hurst on it.

Good idea for a saved search! I’m about to save it so hopefully I can find a gem like this someday.

I’m going to put my bid in $1 over yours. (just kidding)

oh it looks like you have a 64 valiant grill on the front there. I’d say it’s more aesthetically pleasing than the stock grill though. Look out for damage.
